For several centuries after the Arab conquest, some communities of native Christians remained in the southern part of Tunisia, without receiving external assistance to revive their faith. The oases of Jarîd and Nafzâwa, controlled by Ibadite Muslims, certainly constitued the last refuge for those North-African Christians.
